American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay for Life is a 24 hour event to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much. One of Youth 2Youth’s focuses is community change and support and by having a Y2Y team this year, we have the perfect opportunity to do so. I am our team captain this year!

During the 24 hour event, there are various events that occur; from opening ceremonies to luminaria at night, crazy karaoke night to a dance, hang out with other team members to walking the track. I’ve done CV RFL for the past 4 years and it has always been one of my favorite weekends of the entire year. I have a blast year after year and also get a chance to help our community and support those who have or have had cancer and ACS. It’s an incredible experience that you don’t want to miss!

This event is in Castro Valley but we want to extend an invitation to all of you CAB kids to be part of our team!

Some basic information:

Date: July 18-19th (overnight if you raise $100)

Time: 9 AM – 9 AM

Location: Canyon Middle School Track (in Castro Valley)

Who can join: Anyone! This is a Y2Y team but if you have family or friends wanting to join then it’s encouraged that they do. And, I highly encourage you to invited any cancer survivors to come even they are unable to join the team. =)

How do you join the team?

1) Go http://main.acsevents.org/goto/youth2youth and select “Join Team”. There you will follow the steps for registration.

Or

2) Email me back and I can get you the appropriate forms.

Then everyone who signs up MUST talk to me to get the Youth Waiver and Team Member Envelope. Please sign up ASAP

Part of RFL is fundraising for ACS. We will be doing group fundraising. However, everyone needs to individually fundraise. To stay overnight, each member must raise $100. We will brainstorm ways to do so in the coming weeks. In order to have a strong team that is excited and unified as well as raises lots of money for the event, we will begin to have meetings in mid May, on probably Sunday evenings and have pizza and discuss and brainstorm ideas for the team. It's not mandatory and it's pretty informal but please come if you can.

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions! I really encourage all of you to join the team or support us by coming to meetings and fundraising. Thanks!
